DESCRIPTION:Ash Wed. – Ash Wednesday is the beginning of the season of Lent – a journey of 40 days leading up to Easter. The season of Lent is an invitation to reflect and meditate on our personal and communal need for God’s resurrecting and reconciling power. We will gather at noon on Wednesday\, March 2nd\, in our church sanctuary. We will pray\, reflect\, sing\, and share the mark of ashes as we begin the journey towards Jesus’ resurrection together. DESCRIPTION:Alternatives to Incarceration in Alameda County\, 6:30 to 8 p.m.\, Wednesday\, March 9. \nThe event is designed to promote awareness about alternatives to incarceration\, conditions at Santa Rita Jail\, and reentry strategies.  Our goal is to provide a clear\, comprehensive overview of the issues\, share a moral framework through which to understand what is happening\, and highlight ways in which the county and community can partner to address the problems/challenges\, with an overall theme of reducing the jail population at Santa Rita. \nA keynote by Wendy Still\, the Public Protection Advisor to Alameda County\, will be followed by a panel of systems-impacted community leaders\, including John Jones III\, Director of Re-entry and Violence Prevention Programs\, Building Opportunities for Self Sufficiency\, and Saabir Lockett\, Director\, Faith Alliance for a Moral Economy\, a program of East Bay Alliance for a Sustainable Economy.
